Clara K. Chung, MD, MPH

CKC B-MetroDr. Clara Chung has called Birmingham her home since 1989. A native of Kansas, she holds degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (BS), the University of Kansas School of Medicine (MD), and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (MPH—Maternal and Child Health). She completed her medical Internship in Pediatrics at Emory University and both a Residency in Pediatrics and a 3-year Fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at UAB. Her training certifies her to treat allergies and asthma in both adults and children. Dr. Chung met Dr. Smith during their fellowship training together at UAB and The Children’s Hospital of Alabama.

Dr. Chung previously served as the president of the Alabama Society of Allergy and Immunology. She is a diplomate of The American Board of Pediatrics and The American Board of Allergy and Immunology, making her Board Certified to treat children and adults for allergy, asthma, and immunologic problems. She loves caring for the family unit and educating children and adults about their allergies, asthma and other respiratory issues, allergic or contact skin conditions, and recurrent infections or immunologic issues. She aims to enable long-term respiratory health and improved quality of life in all of her patients. Outside of work, Dr. Chung and her husband enjoy spending time with their two daughters and helping them to pursue their own dreams.

Carol A. Smith, MD

CAS B-MetroDr. Smith is originally from Memphis Tennessee and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Medicine. She completed her Residency at the University of Tennessee/LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center and her Fellowship training in the Allergy & Clinical Immunology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Dr. Smith is Board Certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Pediatrics to treat both Pediatric and Adult Allergy and Asthma. Dr. Smith is an active supporter of the American Lung Association where she serves has served as the Medical Chairperson for the Annual Asthma Walk and has been active in Camp Wheeze-Away. She has served three years as an officer in the Alabama Society of Allergy & Immunology. Additionally, Dr. Smith is active in local and state initiatives for the advancement of education in Asthma and Allergic Disease.

Jennifer B. Acuff, CRNP (Nurse Practitioner)

JBA HeadshotJennifer Acuff, a Birmingham native, earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nursing from Samford University and is board certified in Family Practice. Mrs. Acuff has worked in the allergy and asthma specialty since 2003 and with Birmingham Allergy and Asthma since 2010. She has enjoyed serving as a certified Asthma Educator promoting better asthma management and improved quality of life for adults and children with asthma and their communities. When not at work as a nurse practitioner, Mrs. Acuff and her husband enjoy spending time with their sons.
